Carla Makes

If you come to see one of my company's shows, you'll probably first be greeted by a member of the cast in character, who'll tell you who you are, why you are here, and what we would like you to offer (if you choose to). You'll also see my production design. This allows us to build a world which we invite the audience to watch for an hour or so.
When creating shows for The Ministry of Unplanned Occurrences, we spend time researching and playing in the potential social, physical, and narrative environments in which the action takes place. We consider thematic motifs, the kinds of characters in the world, and their relationships to each other. As artistic director of the company, I take the lead in researching and creating exercises as the context to experiment and play.
